The Irish Heart Foundation is Ireland?s national charity dedicated
to fighting heart disease and stroke. Every hour someone in Ireland
suffers a stroke and every day hundreds of people are diagnosed with
heart conditions. The lives of these people are often cut tragically

making cardiovascular disease one of the nation?s biggest killers.
We work to turn this around ? support people to live healthy lives
and avoid cardiovascular disease, but also to support people living
with heart conditions and stroke.
THE ROLE
This role forms part of the Irish Heart Foundation School?s Health
Literacy Project . This forward-thinking project is the first of
it?s kind, it?s also the only adolescent National Health Literacy
Demonstration Project officially registered with the World Health
Organisation. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to
design something truly unique and be play a role in a high profile
intervention design.
The project aims to co-design, deliver and evaluate a schools based
health literacy intervention in post primary DEIS schools. The Schools
Health Promotion Officer will focus ono the development of this
flagship intervention as part of the Irish Heart Foundation schools
programme suite. The ultimate goal is to develop health literacy
skills and support development of positive health behaviours in young
people, harnessing technology as a tool to bring this message to life
through schools. The intervention will focus on a number of pilot DEIS
schools but ultimately allow for expansion for national reach
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
* Working closely with the Children and Young People Programme
Manager to co-design and pilot a school based health literacy
intervention.
* Co-design intervention components with young people, teachers, and
relevant stakeholders.
* Create an engagement strategy for the pilot school communities for
the duration of the pilot.
* Create, develop and refine materials and resources for schools in
a timely fashion to support the initiative working closely with
stakeholders and subject experts.
* Develop and deliver health promotion learning and development
opportunities identified through the intervention.
* Identify successful potential intervention components.
* Act as an on the ground representative for the project working
directly with intervention schools and building a rapport with the
school community.
* Work closely with academic partners to help inform the evaluation.
* Work alongside the Irish Heart Foundation?s Youth Advisory Panel
and organising activities for each of the sessions.
* Create reports for schools based on findings and communicate same.
* Plan and organise the logistics for co-design workshops with
schools, liaise with key contacts as necessary.
* Prepare reports for management.

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
_EDUCATION_
* A relevant third level qualification in Health Promotion, or allied
health discipline.
* Minimum 5 years relevant experience preferably in health
promotion.
_SKILLS_
* Understanding of health literacy and how it?s applied in a health
promotion setting.
* Proven track record and demonstrate experience delivery of health
promotion programmes/interventions in schools or community setting
working directly with children, young people and their families.
* Experience of working on curriculum based programmes and education
frameworks.
* Knowledge and experience of working in an educational setting,
ideally experience working in disadvantaged communities.
* Understanding and knowledge of health inequalities.
* Knowledge of health behaviour change models and techniques.
* Ability to prioritise multiple deadlines in a fast-paced
environment.
* Understanding of child protection.
* Ability to create, design and refine components for a school based
intervention.
* Strong facilitation skills and report writing skills.
* Demonstratable experience of creative approaches to health
promotion.
* Experience co-creating programmes with schools, communities or
youth settings at regional or national level.
* Ability to build client rapport, to listen and have empathy.
* Strong skills in CANVA design or similar and PowerPoint essential.
* Interest or experience in video creation or e-learning software a
distinct advantage.
* An interest in the use of cutting-edge technology as a health
promoting or educational tool.
* Experience in designing and delivering learning and development
materials including CPD.
* Excellent project management skills. Must be able to prioritise
workload, plan and work to multiple deadlines in a demanding
environment.
* Demonstrate an understanding and current knowledge of children and
young people?s health promotion, CVD risk factors and relevant
interventions .
* Excellent data entry and report writing skills with exceptional
attention to detail.
* Flexibility including out of hours.
* Strong communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal
skills.
* A self-motivated person with strong administration, communication
and time management skills.
* Ability to represent the Irish Heart Foundation in a professional
manner at all times.
* Membership of the Health Promotion Practitioners? register and
the Association for Health Promotion Ireland is desirable.

_This is a full-time role, Monday to Friday. The role is based in the
Irish Heart Foundation?s offices in Rathmines, Dublin. Currently
staff are working remotely and the successful candidate will be
supported to work remotely initially according to public health
guidelines._
